Selinunte is an extensive archaeological find on the South-western Coast of Sicily. It was one of the largest city of the ancient world and one of the most important Greek colonies in Sicily, situated at the mouth of the river of the same name. The ruins of this ancient city are steeped in legend. Today Selinunte is a popular archaeological park in a beautiful setting which is why the area surrounding the site has become popular for self catering holidays in the stunning private villas that are scattered in the region. Selinunte also lies next to some fine sand and still uncontaminated beaches such as the Oasis in Torre Salsa and Punta Granitola, which have been partially protected by the establishment of nature parks.
