What makes a villa a Sicily4u luxury villa

Four things, and a villa has to have all four. Its location — on the sea, above it, in the centre of Taormina, or inside an estate. The quality of the design, whether that is Villa Mimì, a 19th-century residence in Taormina restored by the architect Tomaso Buzzi, or Villa Pillirina, built in 2022 inside the Plemmirio marine reserve. The standard of finish and upkeep — the villas here are regularly inspected. And someone local responsible for the villa during your stay — a caretaker, an estate manager or a housekeeping team, depending on the villa.

Size is not one of the four. A large villa is not automatically a luxury villa; several of our largest group villas are in the family collection, not here. Nor is a pool — 21 of the 22 have one, and the exception, Villa del Faro, is a lighthouse with a heated jacuzzi and a walkway to the sea.

What is included varies more than the word “luxury” suggests. At some villas a cook and daily housekeeping are part of the price; at others there is one cleaning visit a week and an electricity allowance. Every villa page lists exactly what is included, and we confirm it in writing before you pay.

Luxury villas in Taormina and on the east coast

Twelve of the 22 are on the coast between Taormina and Acireale, and this is where most people start: the town, Isola Bella, Etna, and Catania airport within the hour. In Taormina itself the choice is between the sea and the town — Villa Tao Bay (sleeps 12) is on the water, with its own beach area 25 metres from the house and a 16-metre infinity pool; Villa Mimì (12) is the 19th-century residence above Isola Bella, with daily housekeeping; Villa La Boheme (10) is in the town near Corso Umberto, with a heated pool and the beaches a cable-car ride away. Ten kilometres up the coast above Letojanni, Villa Tauro (14), Villa Mare Azzurro (8) and Villa Kira (8) all look down on the bay of Taormina, with the sandy beach two kilometres below. At Giardini Naxos, Villa Hera (20) and Villa Miranda (10) have the sea view from the pool; Villa Belvedere (12), Villa Giardini (14), Villa Rosa Nero (8) and Villa Sharbat (8) complete the east coast.

The other ten are on the south-east coast — Villa Angelina and Villa Pillirina at Plemmirio, Villa Brezza Marina at Fontane Bianche, Villa Feudale and Villa del Faro at Brucoli, Villa Jaya inland at Lentini — where the villas sit closer to the water and Syracuse and Noto are a short drive; and in the north and west, one each in the hills above Capo d'Orlando (Villa Marchese), near San Vito Lo Capo (Villa Baya Blu), at Selinunte (Villa Torre Canalotto) and at Ribera (Villa Came), where there are fewer visitors and the drive from the airport is longer. Luxury villas with a sea view and a pool

Most of the collection has a sea view of some kind; this is the shorter list where you see the sea from the water. Villa Tao Bay in Taormina swims towards it — the pool is an infinity pool on the shoreline. Villa Hera at Giardini Naxos and Villa Tauro above Letojanni look down on the bay of Taormina from the pool terrace. Villa Pillirina at Plemmirio has the marine reserve below the pool. And Villa Miranda, Villa Mimì, Villa Belvedere, Villa Kira and Villa Came each describe the view from the pool on their pages. At Villa Angelina, Villa Sharbat, Villa Mare Azzurro, Villa Baya Blu and Villa Marchese the view is from the terraces rather than the water. Seven of the pools are infinity pools: Tao Bay, Sharbat, Mare Azzurro, Miranda, Came, Jaya and Mimì. Staffed villas, chefs and concierge

Two villas come with a household. Villa Jaya (Lentini, sleeps 20) includes a cook, a butler, two maids and a pool attendant for seven hours a day, with three meals cooked; meals are charged per person per day, and the villa provides all the food. Villa Feudale (Brucoli, 24) includes a cook and a waiter for three meals a day, five hours of cleaning every morning, and a villa manager who arranges boats, beaches and treatments; food and drink are charged at cost. 

Daily housekeeping is included at Villa Mimì (with a daily change of linen and an Italian breakfast), Villa Tao Bay (six mornings a week, with 24-hour local assistance), Villa Hera, Villa Angelina and Villa Tauro. Villa Sharbat has a caretaker couple living in a separate part of the property. At the other villas the price includes cleaning every other day, twice a week or once a week — and at Villa Torre Canalotto and Villa Miranda only the final clean — and the villa page says which.

At every villa a private chef can be arranged through us at a price we quote in advance — from a single dinner to every meal of the week — as can extra cleaning and airport transfers. Luxury villas for couples and honeymoons

A villa for two needs to earn its size, so these three are chosen for the setting rather than the sleeps figure. Villa del Faro (Brucoli, sleeps 6) is the old Brucoli lighthouse, built in 1912 and restored in 2020 — three bedrooms, all with the sea, a heated jacuzzi on the sea-facing terrace, a hammam, and a wooden walkway down to the water; the village's bars are 200 metres away. Villa Angelina (Plemmirio, 8) is adults only — no children are accepted — on the rocks with direct access to the sea, daily housekeeping and a roof terrace. Villa Mare Azzurro (Letojanni, 8) has an infinity pool and a heated jacuzzi for six looking at the bay of Isola Bella, and the pool is open April to October. If you want the smallest and least expensive villa on the page, Villa Came (Ribera, 6) has an infinity pool and 140 square metres; Villa Kira (Letojanni, 8) has the bay of Taormina from the master bedroom's own terrace.

Large luxury villas for families and groups

Eleven of the 22 sleep twelve or more. The largest is Villa Feudale (24, in 12 bedrooms with 15 bathrooms, on a 110-acre estate near Brucoli with a 17th-century chapel), then Villa Jaya (20, with a home cinema, a floodlit tennis court and staff) and Villa Hera (20, four floors with a lift, a gym and a sauna). Villa Tauro and Villa Giardini sleep 14, Villa Pillirina 13, and Villa Tao Bay, Villa Brezza Marina, Villa Belvedere, Villa Torre Canalotto and Villa Mimì 12. For a celebration: Villa Hera hosts weddings and events for up to 60 guests, Villa Marchese up to 50 and Villa Belvedere up to 30, each at a stated extra charge; Villa Mimì and Villa Jaya take private events by arrangement. Three things worth knowing before you book with children: Villa Hera accepts at most six children under twelve and Villa Angelina accepts none; none of the pools is fenced; and the pools differ — Villa Miranda's is 1.5 to 2.5 metres deep throughout, while Villa Rosa Nero's, Villa Sharbat's and Villa Marchese's start at 10 to 20 centimetres. Which is the best area of Sicily for a luxury villa?

How much does a luxury villa in Sicily cost per week?

From € 3950 a week for Villa Came in low season to € 39,000 and above for Villa Tao Bay, which reaches € 48,000 in the peak summer weeks. A villa for eight starts between € 5970 (Villa Kira) and € 11,370 (Villa Rosa Nero) depending on the villa and the week. Villa Mimì and Villa Miranda are priced on request.
