Selinunte Holiday Villas and Apartments

One of the chief charms of the magical island of Sicily are the marks of the ancient civilisations that made their home on its shores. From majestic Greek temple ruins to sweeping Roman amphitheatres; from towns founded in ancient Carthage to Byzantine fortresses standing sentinel over Sicily’s craggy coastline; all of these majestic relics provide captivating snapshots to days long past.

Though there are archaeological treasures scattered throughout the island, there is one name that stands out above the rest for lovers of culture and historical sights. The ancient seat of Selinunte is the crown jewel in Sicily’s archaeological crown, giving even the world famous sights of Greece a run for their money. Resting on a high plateau on the south-west shore, within a stone’s throw of Mazara del Vallo and Castelvetrano, Selinunte is one of the largest and most fascinating archaeological parks in the Mediterranean.

Once a thriving metropolis of Ancient Greece, Selinunte has lain in ruin for more than 2,000 years, since a ferocious attack from the Carthaginians in 409BC razed the city to the ground. As well as the archaeological park, Selinunte holidays offer an idyllic coastal location, fringed by glittering white sand beaches and the perfect location to explore more of Sicily’s wild west.
