Discover Marina Di Modica and Surroundings

Marina Di Modica – A small seaside town in Southern Sicily

Marina di Modica is located directly on the southern coast of Sicily, between Sampieri and Pozzallo. The golden sandy beach of the seaside town forms a wide bay and is surrounded by numerous dunes. Marina di Modica offers the ideal holiday of relaxation and beach fun for all age groups.

The tourist resort, with its beautiful, fine African-style sandy beach, its dunes, and its Mediterranean-style landscape, is the ideal place for families or people seeking tranquillity and rest. In the summer season, it is possible to engage in various sports activities on the beach, and, in the evenings, cinema, theatre, concerts, entertainment, and folklore make the stay enjoyable.

A beautiful promenade starts from the main square, where, throughout the year, every Sunday, there are markets where you can buy clothes, bags, toys and much more. In the summer months of July and August, however, there are markets from the farmers of the city of Modica, who offer their delicacies: cheeses, ricotta, arancini, focaccia, homemade bread, and lots of freshly picked fruit and vegetables. Marina di Modica is one of the few places on the Sicilian island where you can still appreciate the Sicilian reality, with its peculiarities and qualities.

Nearby

A few steps from Marina di Modica, to the west, we find Sampieri (4 km away), a hamlet of the municipality of Scicli (15 km away) known for the beautiful Penna Furnace. The former brick factory divides the two bordering villages. To the east, on the other hand, beyond Punta Regilione there is Maganuco, a seaside hamlet of Modica, less known but equally beautiful.

What to visit within a 45 km radius:

Pozzallo (9 km away): a small fishing village with numerous shops for shopping, traditional restaurants, bars, pubs and fishmongers, where you can buy very fresh fish. The Cabrera Tower and the beautiful square, surrounded by palm trees, characterise the small port town.

The baroque city of Modica, only 20 km from Marina di Modica: a typical Sicilian town, rich in culture and folklore. Modica's historic centre is teeming with baroque churches. Among the best known is the Cathedral of San Giorgio. It is also famous throughout the world for its chocolate.

Punta Secca (36 km away): A small seaside town located in the southern part of Sicily, in the province of Ragusa. It is known for its beautiful beaches, its charming historical centre, and its association with the popular Italian detective series Inspector Montalbano.

The Baroque towns of Ragusa and Noto (40 km away) A UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Marzamemi (42 km away): a small fishing village famous for its tuna fishery, the characteristic square and the small harbour.

Portopalo di Capopassero and Isola delle Correnti (45km away): a seaside village at the southernmost tip of Sicily, which forms the dividing line between the Ionian and Mediterranean seas.

In addition, numerous interesting and beautiful nature reserves can be reached, such as the Cava d'Ispica, the Cava Grande and the Vendicari birdlife oasis with its natural beaches.
